Apple today unveiled the specifications of the new Mac Pro in two basic configurations.
The first has a 4-core 3.7GHz Xeon E5 processor with 12 GB of RAM and a Dual FirePro D300 GPU. The CPU is configurable up to either a 3.5 GHz 6-core, a 3.0 GHz 8-core or a 2.7 GHz 12-core processor.
The second starts with a 3.9 GHz 6-core processor, 16 GB of RAM, a Dual FirePro D500 GPU and a processor configurable up to either a 3.0 GHz 8-core or a 2.7 GHz 12-core processor.
Storage in both variations comes as 256 GB PCIe based Flash RAM. Audio output is a Combined optical/digital or analog line out mini-jack. One of the best features for pro audio use is the fact that the new Mac Pro is extremely quiet. According to Apple the idle operating noise is an extremely low 12 dBA. This is great news when you have a project or home studio and need to have the computer in the same room.
The basic 4-core configuration starts at $2,999 dollar while the second starts at $3,999 dollar. The new Mac Pro should be available in December. More specifications and information can be found at Apple’s website.
