Focusrite today announced new hardware. First there is the Scarlett 18i20 a USB 2 interface in a 19 inch rack format. It sports 18 inputs and 20 outputs (hence the name) including 8 high quaity mic preamps. On the front are two independent headphone outputs each with their own level control. Best thing is that it is Class Compliant which means that it needs no drivers and is therefore compatible with iOS devices like the iPad family next to of course the Mac and PC.
Another surprising announcement from focusrite today came in the form of a re-release of the Focusrite Red Series. The Red 1 500 Series Preamp supposedly has the same quality as the legacy Red Series Preamp. A new desktop case design houses one preamp with a custom-wound Luhndahl transformer, switchable phantom power; polarity invert; and a classic illuminated porthole VU meter. The output stage with its Carnhill transformer can easily drive long cable runs without loss of quality.
